Beta remains just fine for Google
Google price comparison service Froogle will remain in beta for a while, the company told Internet Retailer.
Froogle on December 29 celebrated its second birthday, but was forced to blow the candles on the cake in relative obscurity of a beta program.
The "beta" title is generally used for software products during a test phase when the product is nearing readiness for end users to start toying around with it, but with the caveat that errors are still plentiful.
Google however succeeds a stretching the definition by having a slew of products that are in beta for a long period of time. Among the more notorious ones are News.Google.com and Gmail.
Although Froogle isn’t still considered a finished product because Google wants to add features, rumour has it that News.Google.com is forced to remain in beta because the company can't come up with a viable business model.
