Intel's Sonoma launch around the corner
The next generation of the Intel Centrino mobile processor, codenamed Sonoma, is just around the corner. The chip company has rented the recently renovated Ferry Building in downtown San Francisco to host the official launch event on January 19, reports IDG News.
Intel last week at CES gave a sneak peak at the new processor, but back then refused to set an official launch date.
One of the most interesting features is the ability to save battery power by dimming the screen's backlight, while compensating for the decrease in light by increasing the brightness of some of the light colours.
Sonoma is the first of Intel's mobile processors to support PCI Express. It also features high definition audio and an integrated graphics card through the Alviso chipset.
