The web feels the Mac Effect

Apple's website nearly crawled to a complete stop yesterday after Steve Jobs' keynote at MacWorld in San Francisco. I personally had a hard time looking up information about the new Apple products online yesterday, but wasn't sure if this was due to the internet connection in San Francisco's Moscone Convention Centre or performance issues with the Apple website.

It turns out that the latter was the case. As traffic to apple.com, store.apple.com and macworldexpo.com peaked, the site's response times crashed at time. Netcraft claims that the the apple store website running OS X "struggled, however, experiencing outages and lengthy response times." The MacWorld Expo website crashed and stayed offline for hours. Mac loyalists will no doubt rejoice in the fact that it runs on Windows Server 2003. (MacWorld Expo is operated by IDG, not Apple).
