Aussies take on fun surfing at work

Australia based Exinda Networks hopes to settle the problem of fun surfing in the boss's time once and for all. The company has developed a URL and bandwidth monitoring service. Exinda proposes employers use the system to log how much time workers waste by surfing the web to book vacations and read their Hotmail, and subtract those costs from their next pay checks.

Before I could start making references about slave drivers back in the good old days of the Manchester coalmines, the analysts' wisdom has already taken away my wind. "There is a level of trust between employer and employee," James Turner, an industry analyst for security and services at Frost & Sullivan told Cnet.

Everybody knows by now that employees can get a boost from interrupting their regular work activities and taking a short break. The only real risk stems from workers infringing on copyrights or downloading viruses. But you don't need Exinda to battle that.

Pretty poor marketing approach by Exinda, it would seem.
