Digg on its way up
Digg.com just seems unstoppable. The social bookmarking website has been around for little more than a year, but it is already about as big as Slashdot, according to data from Alexa.
If this trend continues, Digg will soon overtake Slashdot, and for a good reason. Both sites make a living by aggregating news from third parties. But Slashdot uses a human editor, versus a group filtering process over at Digg.com.
Having editors write news stories (like they do on regular news websites) is one thing. If they do little more than collect and filter other websites, they add little value. And that can be done more cheaply by a collective working for free. That’s exactly what Digg is showing Slashdot.
Slashdot isn't doomed and will likely stay an authority in technology news, but it's obvious now that it has become past generation technology.
