Palmsource shows off its Linux phone

Palmsource today at Linuxworld showed off its Linux based operating system for mobile phones which is set to replace the current Palm OS 5.0 by early next year.

The software is referred to as Access Linux Platform, after Palmsource's current parent company.

Palmsource's marketing vice president Didier Diaz demonstrated a very early version of the software running on a Haier phone from China, which the company uses as a reference platform.

Apologies for the poor picture quality - these are photos of the projection screen with the demonstration. The picture that the audience saw wasn't much better than what you're seeing here.

Main menu - note the task bar or dock in the bottom that will hold shortcuts to active tasks. A task can be anything from an active phone call to an application.

Address book

And playing a song by Wagner.

I don't want to have to resort to MS (read Microsux) or Symbian ever, ever again!
