Tell your computer more about you (video demo)
If you're one of those people who forgets to turn off their mobile phones when they are in a meeting or (even worse) at a conference, you should look at this sensor study that Intel has been conducting.
Although still at an early research stage, the chipmaker aims for a small sensor on your hip to be able to tell what you're doing: walking, sitting, standing, jogging, you name it. The device has eight sensors to measure anything from movement to air humidity and ambient light.
In addition to preventing embarrassing ringing in the movie theatre, the device could also collect health data and help those the fitness obsessed who are walking around with pedometers. Those step counters after all don't give you extra credit for walking up the stairs or for a half hour jog.
Below you find a video of the technology, featuring Intel researcher Tanzeem Choudhury, that was shot at the Research at Intel Day earlier this week.
