Taking the fun out of gaming
As if games companies didn't have it hard enough. What with rampaging lawyers, ID theft, moral panics and ever increasing piracy there must be very few "ho, ho, ho's" in the halls of EA, Namco et al this coming Christmas.
Now, as a pre-Christmas kick in the teeth, the EU is allowing a 20 per cent tax break for its games developers for four years. How did the cheese-eating surrender monkeys get away with it? By pulling the 'cultural content' card.
Now call me Mr. Picky but what exactly is 'cultural content' in a video game? Will gamers be quizzed on cogito ergo sum before they reach the next level or stop to admire the Bayeux Tapestry while rewinning WWII?
