Sneaky work

Say what you like about the Patriot Act, and there’s plenty to be said, but it is going to hurt US business.

Handing over the right for the government to snoop through information held on corporate servers is bad enough, but as we move to more web-focussed applications it could prove disastrous.

UKNations spy on each other – always have, always will. But the focus today is increasingly on economic espionage. It always happened, remember Concordski, but it’s moved up a step and several European companies have complained that the US and UKare using the Echelon system to win contracts.

Now Google is facing trouble because it may be holding business sensitive information that the government can access at will. It’s a quandary that could stall the whole model of web applications.

LOW LIFE CLUBS AND VENUES are places consumers go to avoid the same people. It's "Riga" instead of "Starbucks", "Peet's" or a respectable place like the 9 listed on AOL's City Search. Another favorite is Mission City Roastery which features live performances 5 or 7 nights a week. Further out is The Seahorse Saloon in Pacifica which might end up silicon valley's favorite get-a-way beach. Reality lately is an all day drive fighting traffic all the way to Half Moon Bay.

I've been busy first indexing versions of valleylist on the "valleylist - - silicon valley" Yahoo! newsgroup. Still busy wrestling with the idea of having ZRNET - -a big proponent of cybercafes and wi fi - - sponsor "valleylist" for the rest of the year. That way I can have non-stop access to an internet laptop computer.

Looks like 15 cities x 5 places in each city = 56 places more or less to entertain yourself in silicon valley.

Other sources - - if I'm not enough try something different like "Threesome" w/o Stephen Baldwin Laura Flynn Boyle or Josh Charles. Symbolically speaking it's following in the hallowed tradition of Hitachi and many silicon valley concerns which continue to preach that the in the 21st century it's a symbolic triad of entities. Here's a 3 some of sources for additional event information

- - the wave magazine
- - metro
- - s.j. mercury news entertainment

The Samadhi of Ranjit Singh is the mausoleum of the Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Located in Lahore, Pakistan,

near the Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque, the mausoleum was begun by his son Kharak Singh on the spot where he was

cremated, and was completed by Dalip Singh in 1848. The tomb is a splendid example of Sikh architecture, with

gilded fluted domes and cupolas and an ornate balustrade round the top. Ranjit Singh's ashes are contained in a

marble urn in the shape of a lotus, sheltered under a marble pavilion inlaid with pietra dura, in the centre of

the tomb. Other tiny urns contain the ashes of his four wives and seven concubines who threw themselves on his

funeral pyre. These urns were removed from the marble pavilion and were replaced by a simple slab around 1999.

This desecration of the mausoleum was part of the preparations for the Khalsa Tricentenary and the visit of Sikh

dignitaries from India. The Samadhi was damaged by the earthquake in October 2005.
